The Central Coast, also referred to as the ‘Great Bear Rainforest’, is a magical wilderness area comprising of temperate rainforest and fjords which reach inland between cloud-laden hills. The coastal area boasts some of the most beautiful scenery in British Colombia but is also one of the most bio-diverse places on earth, thus supporting a magnificent range of wildlife. Inland the Bella Coola Valley stretches east through Tweedsmuir Provincial Park, taking travellers from the majestic coastal mountains to the more barren interior of British Columbia via several small settlements where the friendly smiles more than make up for the simple amenities.

Nestled amongst the scenery are a couple of remote wildlife lodges that offer excellent bear viewing at the right time of year. Access requires a bit more effort but those who come here are well rewarded with breath-taking scenery, an abundance of wildlife, and a wonderful sense that you really are in the middle of nowhere!
