The scenic Thousand Islands are best viewed from the water and there are a number of boat operators offering a range of cruises, regularly departing from Kingston or Gananoque. It’s worth noting that some of them take large tour groups so whilst still informative may feel a little impersonal.

Kingston has a pretty waterfront which is great for a relaxing stroll and there are nuggets of heritage to be found around town. A selection of museums and historic sites paint the diverse picture of the town’s history – from the military base of Fort Henry National Historic Monument, to the heyday of shipbuilding at the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes. You can even gain an unexpectedly fascinating insight in to Canada’s penitentiaries at the Correctional Service of Canada Museum.
