Day 1
Fly to Vancouver today and start your time in Canada with a stroll along the waterfront and a meal at one of the city's many fabulous restaurants.
Day 2
You have a day free in Vancouver and this morning could spend some time exploring the city and Stanley. This afternoon, take the free shuttle to Capilano Suspension Bridge and Park and enjoy exploring this rainforest environment.
Day 3
Collect a car and take the ferry over to Vancouver Island; make your way to Campbell River. If you get off the main highway you will drive through several small waterfront settlements and enjoy lovely views of the coast.
Day 4
Take a fantastic grizzly bear viewing excursion today. Leaving from Campbell River you travel by boat to the peaceful inlets of the mainland and an area owned by the local First Nations group. You will watch the bears grazing the river estuaries from a safe distance and learn about the ecology of this pristine environment.
Day 5
Make your way north today, in to the more remote area of Northern Vancouver Island. You will stay in either Telegraph Cove or Port Hardy, about 50 minutes apart.
Day 6
Take a whale-watching trip today from nearby Telegraph Cove. You will explore the Johnstone Strait where Orca are often spotted along with other marine wildlife such as seals, porpoise and a range of birdlife.
Day 7
Board the Inside Passage ferry early this morning and enjoy the stunning scenery of coastal British Columbia, and possibly some wildlife, along the way. You will arrive in Prince Rupert late evening.
Day 8
You have a free day to look around Prince Rupert. There are a couple of interesting historic sites and museums which give a good insight in the history of this remote trading port. Form mid-May to Mid-July it’s possible to join a wildlife excursion in to Khuyteymateen Provincial Park where large number of Grizzly Bears reside.
Day 9
From Prince Rupert you start a fantastic journey eastwards along the Skeena Valley. This is a remote part of BC, with a few small settlements along the way – you will find friendly locals and incredible scenery. Stop in Smithers tonight.
Day 10
Continue along the Skeena River Valley today. The landscape flattens out and you will pass through large tracts of forest and stumble upon remote lakes as you make your way to Prince George.
Day 11
You turn south today and follow the Fraser River valley through the vast interior of British Columbia to Williams Lake.
Day 12
Your next stop on this epic journey is 100 mile house.
Day 13
Continue south to Cache Creek then start your journey in to the Fitzsimmon Range mountains which surround the resort town of Whistler. The road gets a bit windier but the scenery get more spectacular with a few breath-taking viewpoints along the way.
Day 14
Spend the day in Whistler. We recommend going up on the Peak 2 Peak gondola for fabulous views and a stroll at the top, but if this isn’t for you then go for a walk around one of the nearby lakes or simply watch the world go by in Whistler Village.
Day 15
Travel through Vancouver today to the airport and board your overnight flight home.

This self-drive itinerary is perfect for those who want to get way off the beaten track, and don’t mind driving the distances to find it. It takes you on a route through northern Vancouver Island where you join the Inside Passage ferry to Prince Rupert. From here you drive through central British Columbia all the way back to Vancouver. Along the way remote but delightful little towns await you, and within the vast expanses of wilderness there is iconic wildlife and an immense tranquility to be discovered.
